Hurricane Katrina One Week Later

After any major disaster such as Hurricane Katrina and it is much worse than 911 or any other Hurricane we have ever had in terms of damage, there is no way to satisfy everyone. We have heard so much criticism, but not all things deserve such attacks. Now in retrospect we look back and see how bad this Disaster really was. Hurricane Katrina One Week Later; So how have we done?

Well let us start before the Hurricane. The President of the United States in an unprecedented move preempted the Category V Hurricane and told everyone get out. One million people left New Orleans and nearly a million more left the gulf coast. Imagine if we had to rescue all of them too? The President's administration in calling on local officials to issues mandatory evacuations and then himself going on National Television and telling people to get out probably save 150,000 people.

How have we done after the storm hit? After one week there have been 8.5 million meals served. Thirty Thousand folks have been rescued by helicopter. The 200,000 who stayed in New Orleans are now safe or in the process of being taken out of the city. Many still refuse to leave their homes and do not wish to be saved. The looters have been quelled. The big levee break has been shored up and the smaller breaks will be fixed soon or used to help get the water back out. Forecasters say you have about a week or so of non-Hurricane weather to get something done. We have monies and support pouring in from Foreign nations and the former presidents joining in the volunteer efforts. We have 13,000 active military troops helping. We have a spontaneous mutual assistance system growing and other cities volunteering to take folks in, send in supplies and send in additional assistance. I think we are doing pretty damn good in the after math of a Category FIVE Hurricane. What do you think?
